Writing Theory Work with me
Work with me

Your book deserves a second brain.

I've coached dozens of writers to help them finally finish their stories. Two packages, one question I keep asking: how do we make your story the best possible version?

How it works

A simple, honest process.

01

You apply

Tell me about your book — genre, length, what's working, what isn't. Takes ten minutes.

02

We talk

A free 30-minute call to see if I'm the right coach for the book you're writing.

03

We work

Coaching runs monthly until you say done. Edits are a fixed delivery, about 3–4 weeks.

04

You finish

Because finishing was always the point. Everything else is an evolving process.

“Carson is equal parts teacher, coach, friend, and cheerleader. He expresses his opinions clearly while making sure not to step on your toes. That support was just what I needed!”

— Priya L., Debut novelist, 2025

“I made more progress on my book in two months with Carson than I made in the past year by myself. Having someone to keep you accountable is so important and Carson made it so fun.”

— Marcus O., Fantasy, 2025

“The amount of detail included with the Developmental Editing is astounding. Carson has a great eye for stories and a talent for explaining his thought process.”

— Sarah B., Horror, 2025
FAQ

Things people ask.

What genres do you work with?

Most flavors of genre fiction and commercial fiction. I don't take on romance, erotica, or nonfiction — not because they aren't serious work, but because I'm not the right coach for them.

Do I need to have a draft to start coaching?

No. Some writers show up with an idea, some with a plot framework, and others with a completed draft. Coaching is all about meeting you in the middle and making something great together.

How long does a developmental edit take?

Three to four weeks from the day I have your final draft. For manuscripts over 100k words, plan on closer to five. All dates and timelines are communicated clearly before payment.

Can I do both? Coach me and then edit me?

Most of my clients do. I give coaching clients a discount on the eventual developmental edit.

What if we aren't a fit?

That's what the writing sample and the free call are for. I only accept writing samples that show the level of skill needed to publish. And I only continue to meet with writers who are open to a collaborative process. I turn away nearly a third of submissions.
